Update item fees - automatic

Zedmed v39 and later will automatically update Medicare and DVA fees for existing items overnight when new fee schedules become available. Health Funds will also receive an automatic fee update if the practice configures the funds added to Zedmed.

Enable automatic updates for health funds

Because practices manually add funds and use different names and codes, each fund must be configured to point to the fee schedule.

  1. Select Practice > Items > Fee codes 
  2. The Item Fees Codes screen will open.
  3. Select the Insurers tab.
  4. Next to each Code, use the Linked Fee Schedule column to assign the applicable fund.
    The funds in the drop-down are those added by Zedmed (has a fee file to apply).
  5. Select Y next to the AutoUpdate and Active Count.
  6. Select Close to save and exit.

How to check if the update was performed

At the bottom of the Item Fee Codes screen, the Medicare and DVA Fee status section shows when each fee type was updated and the file used.

You can also add notifications by selecting the Intramail Users button and adding a user to receive a notification when an update has completed. This email shows which fees were updated, how many were updated, and whether any failed.

How to add new items

Once the auto-update has run, add new items as follows:

  • For Health Funds: Follow the add a non-Medicare item process for each item.
  • For Medicare & DVA: Follow the add a Medicare item process for each item.

How to disable automatic fee updates

Automatic updates can be disabled for all fees, including Medicare and DVA.

  1. Select Practice setup > Practice
  2. Untick Automatically update item fees.
